MBtek recommended settings

The exact TIS Tronic 260U settings MBtek specifies for the UNI 60 — boiler setpoint 65 °C, fan 40–80 %, supervision 35 %, hysteresis 2 °C and the full boiler settings list.

Updated

Load these values before the first fire — the factory defaults are generic across the whole TIS range and will not burn well in a UNI 60. These are MBtek's published settings from the UNI install guide.

Set the fan type first

Set Fan type = WPA 07 / DM85 before anything else. With the wrong fan type selected, the speed percentages below will not behave as described.

Below 140 °F you must fit a boiler protection valve

The use of a boiler protection valve is a must if using below 140 °F. The return water can generate heavy condensation on the unit, giving the impression of a water leak. See Piping.

What MBtek changed from the defaults

Three settings differ from the factory values, and they matter:

  • Maximum fan speed 50 % → 80 % and minimum 10 % → 40 %: a UNI 60's fan needs more air than the generic default, and 10 % is low enough that the fan can hum without turning.
  • Fan performance in supervision 25 % → 35 %: keeps the coals alive through the pause between blowups.
  • Maximum boiler temperature 85 °C → 80 °C: a wider margin below the 94 °C emergency threshold and the STB's ~90 °C trip.

Applying them

Enter the menu

Hold F for 3 seconds.

Set the fan type

Boiler settings → Fan type → WPA 07 / DM85.

Set the operating mode

Boiler settings → Boiler operating mode → Brager Expert exhaust gases (requires the PT1000 exhaust sensor activated). Without the sensor, use Brager Expert.

Work down the boiler settings list

Apply every value in the boiler settings table above, in order.

Work down the user menu list

Apply every value in the user menu table above.

Set the boiler setpoint on the main screen

Press F until the boiler temperature main screen is showing, then use UP / DOWN to set 65 °C / 149 °F.

Record what you set

Note the software version and the final values on the commissioning paperwork.

These are a starting point, not a guarantee

The boiler manual is explicit: to achieve high-quality and reliable operation the controller parameters must be optimised, and it is necessary to agree them with a professional instructed by your local distributor. Chimney draft, fuel and building load all shift the ideal values.

Tuning notes

SymptomSetting to look at
Fan hums but does not turnRaise minimum fan speed to 40 %
Fire dies during supervisionRaise fan performance in supervision, or shorten the pause between blowups
Boiler overshoots setpointLengthen the pause between blowups, shorten purge time, widen the fan slowdown threshold
Boiler cycles between operation and supervision constantlyRaise boiler hysteresis (range 1–3 °C)
Fire takes too long to establishRaise the Brager Expert exhaust firing-up time from 10 min
Controller reports failed fire-upRaise firing-up time toward 120 min, or check fuel and draft
